Miles Merritt
(Director)

Miles Merritt began his career as a writer with TV Guide Magazine in Los Angeles.  Miles subsequently began working with New Century Images, a video production studio that specialized in the development of videos for private industry and various city agencies. 
In 1997, Miles moved to New York to work with a Cable News Network in White Plains.  
As writer and producer, he helped create several public relations pieces and short documentaries.  Miles’ writing has appeared in the LA Times, Seattle Times, Rolling Stone, Atencion, and various other periodicals.  In 2003 he was “Featured Guest Poet of the Month” in San Miguel de Allende, GTO.  His first fictional film project, “El Cochero,” won
three awards and was an official selection at twelve film festivals internationally.



Carlos Pascual (Writer/Producer)

Carlos Pascual studied media, theater and literature in his birthplace of Mexico City and film language at UCLA. He has written and published fiction, poetry and essays and has written and produced for radio, TV and film. He has written, directed and performed for the stage and screen.  In 2003 he won the Juror Prize at the Guanajuato Short Film Festival for his film "Babel," produced and post-produced in 24 hours.  Carlos currently lives in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where he edits an art and literature magazine, produces short films and theater and has developed an art, humanities and science community project under a circus tent.



Edgar Peña (Director of Photography)

Born in Querétaro, México, Edgar Peña studied filmmaking in México before going to Spain and France where he continued his studies in filmmaking full-time. He later returned to his hometown where he worked in advertising and corporate video as well as independent film projects and still photography. Edgar was recently granted a governmental sponsorship for his short-film projects. Over the last few years he has served as DP for digital formats both in independent films and advertising.



Gail Kempler (Editor/Executive Producer)

Gail Kempler’s first project as an editor was El Cochero, which won a number of awards. 
In addition to editing Una Causa Noble, Gail did the research and handled all of the licensing requirements for the film. In her day job, Gail is a patent attorney, consulting for biotech companies, including Stemnion, L.L.C., that are working on developing treatments for a wide variety of diseases. Gail received her Ph.D from the University of Minnesota in 1980 and her law degree from Fordham University in 1988.



Montserrat de Leòn (Marina)

A native of Mexico City, Montserrat pursued her interest in art, dance and acting from the time she was a little girl.  She received her Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts from the Authonomical University of Mexico (UNAM Universidad Nacional Autònoma de Mèxico).   She has acted in numerous plays, winning the Best Actress Award in the National Universities Theater Contest in 2005, and also the Best Actress Award on the  UNAM Theater College in the same year.

Montserrat has also participated in many short films, including her most recent entitled, “Una Causa Noble” – starring alongside Marta Aura - directed by Miles Merritt.


Arnulfo Reyes (Ignacio)

With only 4 years in the dramatic arts, Arnulfo has performed in 18 plays and performed
on numerous stages, including, Mexican capital´s zocalo, the Nacional Museum, Foro Contigo, America and the Polyforum Siquieros, where he has presented such important Works as Bodas de Sangre, El Gesticulador, Othello, Cronica de una Muerte Anunciada and Los Arboles Mueren de Pie.  He has also acted in more than 30 short and medium-length films that have been screened in such recognized theaters as the Cineteca Nacional, Jose Revueltas (UNAM) and Festival de Guadalajara.  His image has appeared in television and print publicity campaigns for recognized brands, places and organizations.  His most recent short film is “Una Causa Noble” directed by Miles Merritt - acting alongside  Marta Aura and Montserrat de Leon.



Marta Aura (Grandmama Lola)

Egresada de  la Escuela de Arte Teatral de Bellas Artes con una trayectoria de cuarenta años en el escenario.  Ha trabajado con los directores de escena más  importantes y destacados de México; participando dentro del teatro profesional en todo tipo de géneros
y estilos. En Recitales de poesía y lecturas de cuentos.  Protagonizó “Alicia” de Federico Ibarra, ópera que se presentó en el Palacio Nacional de las Bellas Artes en 1995, dirigida por Ricardo Díaz  Muñoz
.

Ha sido reconocida por la crítica teatral mexicana con más de diez premios como mejor actriz, por las tres Asociaciones de Críticos.  Por las siguientes obras:
“La Morsa”, de Luigui Pirandello, (1967).
“La Fiaca”, de Ricardo Talesnick, 1969).
“Los Motivos del Lobo”, de Sergio Magaña, (1974).
“El Examen de Maridos”, de Juan Ruíz de Alarcón, (1987).
“El pelicano”, de A. Strindberg, (1989).
“El Eclipse”, de Carlos Olmos, (1990).
“El Padre”, de A. Strindberg, (1992).
“La Mujer Rota”, de Simone de Beauvoir, (1993).
“Rita, Julia”, de Benjamín Cann, (1994).
“Los Signos del Zodíaco”, de Sergio Magaña, (1997)
 “Medea” de Eurípides.(2000)
 
Ha participado en 30 películas, y ha sido nominada en dos ocasiones para el Ariel y la
Diosa de Plata, por “Los Motivos de Luz” de Felipe Cazals y “Amorosos Fantasmas”
de Carlos García Agraz. Hizo la  película “Nadie hablará de nosotras cuando hayamos muerto”, en España al lado de Victoria Abril, bajo la dirección de Agustín Díaz Yánez. En
el año 2002 Ganó una Diosa de Plata, por la película “Escrito en el Cuerpo de la Noche”
de Jaime Humberto Hermosillo.

Ha trabajado  en más de  20 telenovelas, y varios programas unitarios, en todas las televisoras del país,  recibió el premio de Mejor Actriz (1996) por un programa de televisión “ Mujer casos de la vida real”. Trabajó en Argentina en una serie para televisión durante seis meses en el año de 1998.  

Ha trabajado también en varios cortometrajes de estudiantes de cine, del CCC y el CUEC.  Tambien, en 2006, un cortometraje se llama “Una Causa Noble” con el director, Miles Merritt.
